Learn the different approaches that can be used when painting with watercolor vs. gouache. You’ll learn about the basics of using each medium as well as their respective strengths and weaknesses. Paint along as I demonstrate my approach to painting the same subject with both watercolor and gouache.

Learn about basic watercolor techniques and exercises that you can do to familiarize yourself with the medium. Follow along as I paint the Asaro Planes of the Head Statue in watercolor.

Lesson 3: Gouache Basics | Essential Techniques and Exercises
Discover the differences between gouache and watercolor, the strengths and weaknesses of both, and basic exercises to get used to working with gouache. Follow along as I paint the Asaro Planes of the head statue in gouache.

Lesson 4: Gouache Portrait Tutorial
Join me as I paint the same portrait from Lesson 2, but this time in gouache instead of watercolor. Learn how my approach differs based on the selected medium.

WORKSHOP 2: EXPLORING MIXED MEIDA
Instructor: Shelly Kim

Let's create together in this fun workshop series where we will explore various mixed media tools such as watercolor, acrylic inks and markers to create simple and colorful art. You'll learn how to paint various illustrations from loose florals to fruit & veggie patters. These illustrations can then be applied when painting colorful wreaths, patterns, creating a journal spread, making greeting cards, and more. This workshop is all about having fun and exploring various mixed media tools to help fuel your creativity!

Lesson 1: Simple Loose Leaves
Using a mix of acrylic inks and brush markers, we’ll explore different techniques for creating simple loose leaf illustrations. They can stand alone as a design or be incorporated as an element in other projects and pieces.

Lesson 2: Floral and Leaf Wreath Tutorial
Follow along as Shelly demonstrates her methods for creating colorful florals and leaves. After practicing these elements, she’ll show you how to incorporate them into a wreath design and add brush lettering. This lesson will feature a mix of watercolors and brush markers.

Lesson 3: All-over Fruit and Veggie Pattern:
Shelly will show you how to use water-soluble brush markers to create fruit and veggie patterns on watercolor cards or watercolor paper (your choice!). These patterns make for the perfect greeting card, or elements of an art journal page.

Lesson 4: Bullet Journal Page Tutorial:
Using a mix of watercolor and markers, Shelly shows how she mixes these elements with a touch of brush lettering to create a weekly bullet journal spread.

WORKSHOP 3: DRAWING 101
Instructor: Kelly Foss

This is a beginner friendly workshop. You will learn about art materials, how to use them, ways to set-up your space, and how to avoid 3 mistakes many students makes. With this knowledge, Kelly will lead you in discovering classical drawing techniques, which will help your drawings look more realistic, and your creative time be more fun.

WORKSHOP 4: OIL PAINTING FOR BEGINNERS
Instructor: Katie Jobling

Dive into the world of oil painting; a beautiful medium that was the favored amongst the masters. Together we will create some beautiful works, which will help you grow in confidence while deepening your understanding of oil painting. You will learn about mixing colors, building layers and the secret to oil painting success.

Lesson 1: Introduction to Traditional Oil Paint:
Learn the basics of traditional oil painting. We’ll look at different painting techniques, how to use a color wheel to mix colors, with some fun exercises to build your confidence using oils.

Lesson 2: Rose Oil Painting Tutorial:
Together we’ll create a beautiful floral oil painting. We’ll cover lots of painting techniques, at an easy pace for beginners. By the end of the lesson you will have a painting you can be proud of.

We will look at the basics of water-mixable oils and how to use them. We’ll also consider the benefits of water-mixable oils and what differentiates them from acrylics and regular oils.
