NEW! Toned Mixed Media Art Journals

We are excited to introduce our new Hardbound and Softcover Toned Mixed Media Art Journals in both Tan and Gray!

We recently launched our new Toned Tan and Gray Mixed Media paper, which is a hybrid of our 400 Series Toned Sketch and our 400 Series Mixed Media. It has the same warm tan and cool gray mid-tone colors as our Toned Sketch, and the same working properties as our Mixed Media paper, meaning it works great with light and dark media, and wet and dry media.

The paper is heavyweight at 184lb (300gsm).

We first launched the new Toned Mixed Media paper in pads. Now we’re excited to introduce both the tan and gray in hardbound and softcover art journals.

Hardbound Toned Mixed Media Art Journals come in 2 sizes of tan and gray:
• 8.5”x5.5” (LANDSCAPE)
• 8.5”x11”

Softcover Toned Mixed Media Journals come in 2 sizes of tan and gray:
• 8”x5.5” (LANDSCAPE)
• 7.75”x9.75”

Both the hardbound and softcover books have smyth-sewn binding, allowing the books to open wide and lay flat.

Why use toned paper?

Starting your artwork using mid-range tan or gray paper allows for unique sketching & drawing possibilities by providing the middle value that would otherwise need to be rendered by the artist. A wider range of values from light to dark can be used, and the middle tone makes it easier for the artist to deliberately place shadows and highlights.

Keeping the value of the paper as one of the values in the drawing not only saves time, but allows the artist to use graphite or other dark media to push darker values and white pencils or other light media to add highlights, making sketches and drawings pop.
