The Making of 300 Series Sketch Pads

Here's a quick behind-the-scenes look at the making of our 3.5"x5" 300 Series Sketch pad, which is a great travel size for taking with you on the go.

PROCESS:

► 100 master sheets of sketch paper at 25"x36" are counted out with one master cover and one master chipboard that are also 25"x36". Many large stacks of these sets are created with tabs between them to keep the count accurate.

►The large sets get trimmed with a guillotine cutter to 3.5"x5.5". The final size of the usable surface of the paper in the pad is 3.5"x5"; the extra 1/2" allows room for the wire binding.

►The 3.5"x5.5" sets are run through a punch machine creating holes for the wire.

►The trimmed and punched sets are placed on a machine called the “Wire O” in which the wire runs through the punched holes. The wire comes on large cylinders that resemble giant spools. The machine automatically trims the wire on the pad to the 3.5" width as it's being applied.

► The pads are flipped around so the cover is on top and packaged in a carton for shipping. At this point they're ready for art!

Our 300 Series Sketch pads come in a range of sizes with 100 sheets per pad so you've got plenty of paper to draw on. It has a fine tooth surface for dry media like graphite, colored pencil, charcoal and sketching stick. It is 50lb. (74gsm) and acid free. Learn more here.
