Heavyweight Mixed Media Demo with Graham Smith

Artist Graham Smith delivers a knockout piece on our new 500 Series Heavyweight Mixed Media paper. Check out his demo on this extra thick paper.

Graham starts with an acrylic wash to tone the background. At 350lb (570gsm), the paper stays completely flat and can stand up to many layers of both wet and dry media.

Graham sketches in the rough shape of the portrait, then blocks in the basic values using vertical strokes and follows the planes of the form.

Then he finishes the strongman portrait with 3 basic values; light, medium, dark. He uses 6B for the darker values, 2B for the medium values, and 2H for the light values. This 3-ply, 100% cotton surface is internally sized for wet media and has a durable vellum finish for drawing techniques. It is excellent for watercolor, gouache, acrylic, graphite, pen and ink, colored pencil, marker, pastel, and collage.

It is archival, lignin free, and made in the USA. Available in 3 pad sizes with glue binding for clean and easy sheet removal:

  • 6"x8"
  • 9"x12"
  • 11"x14"
  • 12 sheet per pad (all 3 sizes)
