Drawing 101 - Online Workshop

Kelly Foss' Drawing 101 Workshop is now open and it's completely FREE to watch and draw along! Kelly is an oil painter and drawer based in New York City.  She has spent the last three years teaching still life painting, figure drawing, portrait drawing, and portrait painting in Manhattan and she's teaching us her top drawing tips in this series of four video lessons.

This is a beginner-friendly workshop. You will learn about art materials, how to use them, ways to set up your space, and how to avoid 3 mistakes every student makes. With this knowledge, Kelly will lead you in discovering classical drawing techniques, which will help your drawings look more realistic, and your creative time be more fun.

SUPPLY LIST

Paper

As the foundation of your artwork, paper is the natural place to start and plays a huge role in the success of your artwork. Always choose a quality paper that allows multiple layers and reworking. In this workshop series we will be working with the following papers:

Pencils

  • Lyra Art Design graphite pencil set (using the 2b, 4b, & 6b)
  • Lyra Rembrandt White Pastel pencil
  • Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor Pale Geranium Lake (red-colored pencil)

Erasers

  • Lyra Orlow-Techno PVC Free white eraser
  • Lyra kneaded eraser

Brush (Optional but handy)

  • Princeton #2900H-200 2″ Brush to sweep away eraser peels

CLASS LINEUP

► Lesson 1: Set-Up

Follow along as Kelly teaches how to set up your space, decide on materials, and how to use your pencils.

► Lesson 2: Still Life, Bananas

In this exercise, you'll learn about values and avoiding popping contrasts while you draw your own still life.

► Lesson 3: Pet Portrait

Kelly will show you all the steps to drawing your very own pet portrait.

► Lesson 4: Drawing a Mouth

In the final lesson, you'll learn how to sketch out a mouth and add color with a red wash.
