Colored Pencil Workshop with Sarah Becktel

Check out Sarah Becktel's Colored Pencil with Mixed Media online workshop! In this FREE online course, artist Sarah Becktel will guide you through four video lessons demonstrating how to create art with colored pencil as the primary medium. Sarah will then introduce techniques for adding solvents, watercolor, acrylic and ink to enhance and accentuate artwork while still maintaining the look and feel of colored pencil.

Lesson 1: Introduction to Materials and Techniques

In lesson 1, you'll be getting acquainted with the materials and techniques that Sarah will be using throughout the workshop. She'll be doing short demonstrations in this lesson, and then you’ll focus on each medium in more detail during the next 3 lessons.      

Lesson 2: Adding Fluid Acrylics to Colored Pencil

In this lesson, you’ll be focusing on enhancing colored pencil with fluid acrylic.  Sarah be working on Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Boards that are toned with fluid acrylic. 

Lesson 3: Adding Watercolor to Colored Pencil

In this lesson, you’ll be focusing on enhancing colored pencil with watercolor.  

Lesson 4: Using Pen and Ink with Colored Pencil

In this lesson, you will be focusing on techniques for combining pen and ink with colored pencil and fluid acrylic.  Sarah will also be referencing value, which refers to how light or dark something is.  A value scale applies numbers to each value with 1 representing white and 10 representing black.  As the numbers increase, the value gets darker.
