Artist Interview - Emine

Who are you and what do you do?

Hi, I am Emine from Turkiye. I am a dentist and a mother who loves to draw with watercolor.

Why do you do what you do?

Because ı really love it.  Playing with colors makes me relaxed.

You use so many vibrant colors, do you have any that you favor?

I guess I like to use all blue tones but my favorite one is turquoise.

What inspires your art?

Nature and sometimes just simple things.  But I really love to draw bottles mostly.

How and when did you get into art?

I always liked to draw but four years ago I had much free time at my job and I saw great watercolor artists on social media and I thought I should try it.

How has your practice changed over time?

When I first started painting, I was mostly trying to draw the same with the photo I saw. Now I like to shape my reference more in my own way.

What’s your favorite piece of art that you’ve created? Why?

I like this one because I like both to draw bottles and Istanbul.

What’s the best piece of art advice you’ve been given?

Ddon't be afraid to make mistakes.

What’s one art tip/technique you can share with us that you find really helpful?

Maybe not a tip exactly, for me, planning, setting the right colors is the most important factor affecting the result of the picture.

Do you have any secret tips or techniques you use to salvage a piece when you make a mistake?

Doing it again from the start :) .  Sometimes for small mistakes, I try to add some extra objects to my painting, but it doesn't work all the time :)

What art materials could you not live without?

My watercolor, paper, and brush.

What types of colors are you drawn to for your art and why?

I feel myself free when ı use blue tones so I really love to use them.

What is your favorite Strathmore paper?

I love the Travel Series Watercolor pads.

Who are your biggest influences (or who were when you started doing art)?

My family.

What’s the most common art-related question you get from your followers?

They ask mostly about the brand of the brush, paper, and watercolor I used.
