Art Journal Techniques for Holiday Cards
Are you looking for a way to share your art with your friends and family this holiday season?
Instead of sending store boughts cards, create your own!
Lauren from Get Messy Art is here today to share how you can create and give the gift of personal art this holiday season using Postcards and Mixed Media Cards. Get Messy is an art journaling community and creative mentorship program for makers who want to explore their creativity, their voice, and their lives through art journaling (by embracing the mess). Whether you’re new to art journaling or looking to share your creative skills with your friends and family this holiday season, join Lauren as she encourages you to use your skills, style and personality to create memorable cards in the videos below.
FROM LAUREN AT GET MESSY:
We partnered with Strathmore (our art journal bffs) to help you create lovely, personal art using their postcards and mixed media cards. These are perfect for all of your art journaling projects this holiday season as the paper is 184 lb. and will be able to stand up to all the wet medium you can pile on them - which is what we are going to do with them in the video below.
First up, let’s create a winter wonderland. Follow along in the first half of the video as Lauren teaches you how to create a snow filled background, grow trees with just a brush pen + water and then learn to make it snow.
Materials:
- Strathmore Mixed Media Postcards
- Acrylic paint (Lauren used Cobalt blue + white)
- Brush pens
- Transparent gesso
- Ink
- Alphabet stamps
- Paintbrush
- Paint spreader
Next, how about a twist on the traditional holiday card?! Let’s create cards using our photos, ephemera and personal styles to send heartfelt seasons greetings.
Materials:
- Strathmore Mixed Media Cards
- Collage material
- Glue
- Scissors
- Transparent gesso
- Paint spreader
- Writing utensils of your choice (Brush pens, paints makers, etc)
Wouldn’t you love to receive a handmade card like this? Wouldn’t you feel so loved and be so impressed by your crafty friends?!
YES! You would. So send out that lovely art you created and be sure to share it with us too on instagram using the hashtag #getmessyartjournal
